Power of the Paw!

Silver and Zappa's Paws

Silver is on a different antibiotic for her bladder infection and is steadily getting better day by day.  She is eating at least one meal a day and lots of mini milkbones.  The only other thing she will eat.  We are not out of the woods yet with her appetite.  This weekend will tell us more.

The bigger picture

Please send all good thoughts, best wishes, prayers and POTP this way for Silver.  We could really use it.
Thank  you!

What's a "rough day" for Brut?

I just wanted to let everyone know that Brut isn't in any pain.  I know his pain signs and he isn't showing any of them.  He may uncomfortable or not feeling well, but he not in pain.

A rough day for Brut consist of bleeding into his abdomen from the mass on his spleen and because of the internal blood loss, his blood pressure drops.  The more or heavier he bleeds internally, the lower his blood pressure drops.

When his blood pressure drops, he has a difficult time moving, like getting and up down and he has a wobbly walk.  He is very sleepy and will only get up food, water, and using the facilities.  I usually keep a water bowl right next to him so he doesn't have to move, when he isn't feeling well.

Brut was feeling a little better today than the last few days.  He laid outside for most of the day, but was alert with his head up most of the time.  The last few days of not feeling good he could barely lift his head or stay awake for any length of time.  Brut got up and down more often and walked to further corners of the yard and although his walk was still wobbly he was making the distance.  As oppose to yesterday when he did get up he stayed close to his hole that he lays and only for the basic necessities.

Being outdoors must make Brut feel better, because every nice day we have had he has been out well after dark.

Brut growled at Zappa and Fiona when he became possessive of me and his territory.  So believe me he's still has a lot of fight and life left in him.  He ain't going down easy.  :)  And we respect his right to life by making him feel like the king that he is.

Update: Brut's eye

While we still don't know how Brut injured his eye, it is better than it was.  We have been giving him prescription eye drops 3 to 4 times a day.  The white cloudiness dissappeared and the color of his eye was looking better as a whole.

The problem is that it hasn't improved anymore in the last 4 to 5 days.  The eye is starting to have a discharge and Brut has begun squinting in that eye.  I'm not sure what to make of it.  The vet said to watch for the color of the iris to come back, a sure sign he was be getting better.   Instead it has stayed bloody looking.  We may be headed to a specialist if we are unable to find an answer.

WE NEED YOUR PRAYERS, POTP, AND ANY GOOD VIBES YOU CAN SEND OUR WAY!

Going to a specialist would mean a 4 hour one way trip in a single cab truck with a hyper Brut who would have no way to lay down and would want to stick his head out the window.  Which I don't think would help his eye situation.

This whole thing has been like a bad dream that just keeps going on and on.  My husband, Mark has been an emotional wreck over the whole thing from the time we first noticed it.  It was such a relief when we went to the vet to find out it wasn't cataracts.  Then she said it looked like an injury, with the bloodliness of it and we prayed the eye drops would work.  And they did for the first week, but now it doesn't look like they are helping anymore.

Of course we are afraid of the worse, like Brut losing his eye, or losing some vision or all.  We don't know what we are going to do.  Mark is going to talk to the vet about the situation and see what she advises.

Keep your paws crossed we find out some good news.  Thank you.

Somehow Brut hurt his right eye.  (your left) It was tough trying to get a pic of it.
