Our first week with Sadie

Wow!  I don't know how to start this.  So much has happened during our first week of having Sadie, that I don't know where to start.

Overall, she is doing great!  She came with no training, but being the intelligent puppy she is, she has figured out most things very quickly and with little training on my part.  Like when I tried teaching her to sit and she wasn't having it.  But when I praised her when she did sit on her own, she started doing it to my command.  Or when I say leave it, she does, even though I haven't taught her what that means.

We have had only one accident in the house and that was on her first day here and I didn't make it to the door on time.  Except for that one time, she goes outside.  So, that has been pretty cool.

Sadie has no trouble entertaining herself for long periods of time.  She may go through every toy we have for her, but she enjoys playing by herself.

We are not sure about much of her background, but she started out being leery of Mark.  It took a few days, but he is winning her over.  Considering Mark is the Pied Piper of dogs, he always wins them over.

The first three days were probably the roughest of our journey with Sadie.  It was a big change for everyone, but especially for Chevy.  He took it pretty hard, but he is starting to accept her as only Chevy can.

Sadie has severe separation anxiety, which we are slowly making progress with her.  I wasn't able to walk Chevy that first week, because she would just panic.  I was finally able to take him the other night, and I think that helped out his mental and emotional state.  Mine as well.

One of our biggest issues with is her jumping and nipping while jumping.  She does this when she gets scared and thinks I left her or when she does her zoomies.  She will get overexcited and jump and bite at me.  I am starting to make progress that by turning my back to her and saying no. We are still working on walking on a leash in the yard.  She is coming along well in that area.  I am not rushing it.

Overall, Sadie is a really good puppy. She takes treats, but isn't overly motivated by them.  Squeaky toys are more her thing.  She's sweet and loving, until she turns into the black tornado.  lol  But really, she's got to be one of the best puppies that wasn't ours.
