Freedom through Chance's spirit.

After x amount of time going where he thinks I want him to or at least taking a route that accompanies his speed, without even looking up, this fierce stallion of a dog gently takes the lead.  He guides me down the snow trodden path and into the trees.  His gait slows with his large pads plodding softly on the snow.   I feel my breath escape me and my shoulders fall. The tension evaporates from my body, leaving me with a light and airy feeling.

It is just me and him in this snowflake covered mini forest.

Surrounded by bark and snow, the world falls away.

I can feel each paw print he makes stamped onto my heart.

He checks on me by looking back to the left, keeping the communication strong between us.

"Come with me," his eyes beckoned.

We have not walk alone and free in a long time.  Walk times are crammed with schedules and constraints of the setting sun.

I've lost the essence of what a walk with my heart dog can really be.

As I follow him I feel like I'm riding an old horse walking familiar trails.

Chance
is the horse.

I have felt this horse analogy with Chance throughout our many years together, as if his true spirit is more equine than canine.

Running free.

The same freedom he wants me to find.

And I did.

Through...him

Conjoined

The walls come down when we are together.  Neither of us very social by nature.  Each of us preferring to be alone with each other.  We are similar that way.  I am drawn to him like a magnet for reasons that are unknown.  My feelings splash down my face.  He is there.  I grab onto his bushy fur and he pulls me into him.  His massive head wraps around mine.  Our spirits conjoin.  It is safe, for both us to mesh in the freedom that burns within.  The security of his heart is overwhelming.  His massive persona is inwardly magnified.  And I feel true.  Stunned by his magnificence.   Hand to fur, the secrets of our souls mesh beyond our understanding.  Overtaken in the awe of the mystery.  How does this creature know who I am?    In a world of misunderstanding, does he wonder the same thing?

A Little Brut Freedom

 No Brut?  I'm in charge!!

Have you ever been waiting for someone to leave so you can have the house to yourself and do what you want without getting yelled at?  That's what it is like for the Back Dogs when Brut goes for a ride with Daddy or is even outside for a long period.  Silver, Fiona, Zappa and I party down!!  Everyone needs a break from Brut's dictatorship every now and again and we tend to live it up.  The treats come out, the forbidden toys come out and we turn the music up loud!  It sounds horrible I know, I am such a mean mom, but Lord knows that boy deserve to be left out of the party sometimes and the rest of the Back Dogs need the reprieve.

If you haven't heard, Brut can be like the Drill Sargent keeping everyone in line and on time.  He is always keeping the other three Back Dogs in check and at attention.  So when he's out of the picture you can imagine the wild time we have when we become unleashed.

I'm sure it isn't fair to make a special occasion when Brut is away from his command post but it feels so good to breathe and loosen up for a few minutes without him harping down everyone's neck that I can't help myself.  It may only be for a few minutes or it might be for a few hours, whatever the time is, it is precious.

Zappa especially likes razzing his mom, Silver and usually can't get close enough for any length of time to actually have a good round of bitey face.  So when he gets the opportunity, he takes it.  They can all roll on the floor and cause as much commotion as they want without being sent back to the barracks.

It is so nice to drop my guard for a little while and really enjoy the time with Silver, Zappa and Fiona.  We ALL need a break from Brut sometimes, because we know when he comes back home, rank is pulled and the Brut-miester is back in charge barking out the orders.

You did WHAT while I was gone??

Unleash the Beast

I never planned on having the world's most perfectly trained dogs.  From the start of each of my dogs lives, I have wanted them to be the creatures they were born to be.  I have only wanted them to be as close to their natural selves as possible.  There is nothing more sacred than an untamed heart regardless of human comforts.  A place where their souls and spirits run with the wind.  Free to claim their stake of the wild within them.  To blossom into their most authentic selves.  The same beast lies within us and needs to be unleashed as well.  Who says that dogs own the rights to that kind of freedom?  :)

Oh, to be a Dog!

Have you ever really witnessed the joy of a dog when they are running?  The freedom of zooming at speeds you could never dream of?  The thrill of leaping, jumping, twisting and bounding forward in a heartbeat.

I have always wanted to be a dog and know that feeling of effortlessness of movement.  Being able to run free on a whim.  No thinking or training involved, just being able to take off when you wanted to.  Wouldn't that be wonderful?  There's has got to be nothing better than running at breakneck speeds with such grace and ease.  When you think about it, it almost cruel to slow them down to our speeds.  There is nothing better than watching dogs play, with moves that out champion any athlete.  The agility and flexibility of being able to bend and twist on a dime with so few injuries coupled with an energy that would makes us millionaires if we could bottle it up.  It is a beautiful thing watching dogs run and play with such spirit and freedom.  Oh, what I wouldn't give to be a dog.  Until then I am blessed to live vicariously through them.

Here is a taste of that freedom with Silver and the boys.  Fiona was gone with Daddy, so Silver was lapping up the attention!
