mommy's corner-being an animal caregiver

I'm exhausted tonight.  I love everything about pets; especially the bonding relationship that continues to thrive and grow.  Taking you to places of love you never knew existed.  I wouldn't trade them for the world.  For the most part, I do not mind caring for them, but there are times when I really feel like I need some me time. It is during this time I don't want to be touched or nuzzled or rubbed against.  I need some time to myself to recuperate from taking care of everyone.

That's what I'm doing right now.

Getting away from the dogs and cats and taking a much needed break.

Are there others out there that struggle sometimes with being a caregiver?

I mean, pets are not like children.  They don't eventually leave home and start their own lives.

So caring for them can be kind of exhausting.  And I guess that's where I am tonight.

It isn't necessary good or bad, it is just part of the love and commitment of caring for animals.

I'll be OK.  Just need a little down time.

Thanks for listening!

Yes, that's how I feel...

I feel for you. I had four german shepherds and one had doggy dementia and problems with peeing and leaking, one had a cancer tumor on his foot pad but we could not do surgery because he had nerve issues and we were afraid he might not come out of it, and the other two are sisters and there was fighting problems. I was the main caregiver as my husband allows me to stay home and he brings home the money. It was very tiring and wearing and there were days I did not have very much patience. We had to have the vet come to the house in 2017 for the one with the tumor because he was causing him so much suffering that it was not fair (he was only 8) and then the next month she came again to help the 14 year old transition because his problems were getting worse and that was not fair. When I look back on it now, I wish I had them still and I would try not to be impatient and would just deal with the tiredness. They have such short lives and give us so much joy, laughter, and love unconditionally that I just try to do the best I can for the time they are with us. Hugs going out to you.

Thank you kruzingwithk9s. We don't have any major health issue yet, but all four dogs are eleven years old. I have really been getting better with my patience and trying to enjoy my time with them. Some days I just don't have anything to give.

So sorry to hear about your eight year old and fourteen year old especially so close together. That must have been difficult.

The needy ones are my cats and for good reason. Sometimes I just don't have the time get to everyone in one day. We are working on it. Once spring finally gets here, my cat Boxer will be able to go outside and that will take a lot of the pressure off. It has been a long winter.

Thank you so much for sharing with me. I appreciate someone understanding.
Take care!
