Husky Heaven- the Snow Paths

We are buried in a couple feet of snow.  At least!  Daddy Mark has been making snow paths with the snow blower, since we first got snow in December.  Good thing too, because we keep getting more and more snow as winter carries on.

The snow blower adds to the snow total, as you'll see in this first video of the front yard. It is more like 3 feet of snow out there. Daddy Mark and the Front Dogs take you on a tour of their snowy world.

It wouldn't be a complete tour if we didn't take you in the backyard with Daddy Mark and the Back Dogs.  This is Zappa and Fiona's snowy world.

Can you believe how deep it is?  It has been a good five years since we had this much snow.  Just this past week we had snowstorm after snowstorm to add to the accumulation!  It has been a crazy winter!  Stay warm and stay safe!

What's the weather like where you are at?

Happy New Year!

We awoke to a wonderful wintery world for the first day of the New Year.

I couldn't get over how blue the sky was against the snow-covered trees.

Just having the sun shining in a otherwise cloudy state offered a fresh perspective for the future.

Yeah, like can we go back in the house now??  It's 11°F out here!

Our First Snowfall Of the Year!

We have about 4 inches of snow that fell on yesterday in what seemed like a mini-blizzard.

Fall isn't even over with yet.  There are still many trees with leaves on them in our area!

This is the Back Dogs "Dog Talk Time" Canopy, where we spend many days and nights starting our days and catching up at night.  We start as early in the spring as possible, through summer and as late into fall that we can.

The Front Dogs have one as well.  And like every day is with two packs, we visit one side and then the other.  Gotta be fair.  :)

And then there is Zappa who venture out with me tonight to get these snow pics.  He is more concerned with what creatures might be living in the wood shed than me getting his picture.  bol

Love this one with the snow on his nose!

He was waiting for his modeling treats that I didn't have. I'm getting that look!

And the pine trees!  Can't call it up north without the pine trees.

Happy Snow Day!

A quick update for those who are wondering...

Fiona is doing much, much better.  We think the antibiotic she was taking was making her a little queasy and that may be the reason she was having a hard time eating.  She just took her last one today, so hoping she will get back her to regular food amount.  She needs to gain back those couple of pounds she lost!

Thank you again for the POTP for her!

So cold, but the snow is pretty

We saw the sun for the first time in about a month, after waking up to -2F.

Our high was 11F.
We haven't been able to walk the dogs.
It is too cold for them part-time Huskies.

The Back Dogs were out back and after business was taken care of, you'd see one foot lift up, then another, as they hobbled to the door.

We have a whole week of this arctic weather and don't know when we will "warm up."
I miss our walks.  I know the dogs do too.
Hopefully we'll catch a break soon.

Keep warm my friends.

My name is Patty...

And I'm a dog sled addict!!

Whenever there's a hint of snow on the ground my brain freezes and my heart goes into a dog sled frenzy.  I can't stop myself, nor do I want to.  I just want more, more, more.  I'm afraid there is no hope for me and I can not be saved.  There is nothing like that first "whoosh" that rushes straight to your head and there is no turning back after that.

I'll admit I have a problem and the falling snow isn't helping.  Help!  I'm afraid I'm a lost cause to the dog sledding bug that bites me every winter for which the only cure is to DOG SLED!!

Did someone say dog sled? and snow?  I'm there!  I'm there!

There's no hope for me, but folks save yourself!  Unless, unless you care to join me....one time won't hurt...trust me......BAWHAHA!!

Looks fresh snow!!!!!!!!  Dog sled!  Dog sled!!  Dog sled!!

How Winter Durable Is Your Dog?

Before Chance came back to us, his previous owners had him on a short tether and kept him outside with some sort of shelter and it was winter.  We couldn't pick him up the day they called and said we would come back the next day to get him.  I remember that it was going to get down to zero degrees (-17.7C) that night and all I could think about was I hoped he'd was going to be OK.

When we brought him home, he had no aversion to the cold.  Still a puppy at a year old, he wasn't phased by the bitter temps when we would play outside at night.  He was also persistent about waiting on those nights sitting at the corner of the fence waiting for his boy to come and get him.  Chance was not deterred by the weather one bit.

About a year later I noticed a difference.  The colder it got the more sensitive Chance became to the cold.  Holding up his paw or paws in that uncomfortable awkward position with a look on his face that was screaming in pain.

I don't have to pee. I don't have to pee.  I don't have to pee.

20F (-6C) and above suits Chance just fine.  He loves the snow, running, chasing and jumping, until it starts to dip to about 17F, 16F, 15F (-8.3C, -8.8C, -9.4C)  then it gets a little ify.

And anything below 15F (-9.4C) is bathroom time and that's it.

Chance is my most sensitive dog to the cold temperatures.  Brut is my toughest and everyone else falls in between.

We are going on on second week of no walks due to the freezing temperatures and quick potty breaks.  We haven't even been able to just go outside for while.  This winter is one of the harshest we've been through and we're not out of the woods yet.

So how does your dog fair with the cold to frigid temperatures?  Do you have some dogs that are more sensitive then others?

Merry Christmas!!

Blaze! Get back in the picture!

This is the world we awoke to today and boy, oh boy, it was just looked just like Christmas!  We are used to one last blast before spring finally wins the battle with winter, but after a couple months of no snow, this was quite a surprise!

Back Dogs charging out!

Chance and Blaze played for an hour in the snow like it was the first time they had ever seen it.  While the Back Dogs rolled on their backs and that was about it.  Sometimes they are just hopeless if I'm not out there to entertain them!  Silver was holding up her paws like she was walking through fields of manure.  She looked at me like, "You've got to be kidding me!  You expect me to walk through this?"  She's become quite the baby the older she gets.  It was too funny.

We took all the dogs for a walk through the forest near our house and enjoyed the quiet surroundings.  It was a peaceful day as we relished in the last bouts of this winter wonderland.  After going through the brunt of winter, it was nice to enjoy a temporary taste of this beautiful season, knowing that soon enough the snowflakes will be gone and there will be six sad Huskies waiting for its return.

Snow Play

We had our first real snowstorm that lasted for 2 days and gave us about a foot of snow.  After shoveling the driveway, sidewalk and the two foot high burm the snow plow left, I came in to see this...

Are you ready to come out and play now, Mom??

Monday Memories-Snow Day

The puppies were born in January and we live in a Northern Climate that had a bitter cold winter that year.  The puppies could go outside at four weeks old, but due to the frigid temperatures, we weren't able to take them out until they were seven weeks old.

We had just gotten back from the vet's office for their first round of vaccinations and dewormers and had transported all ten of them in a large cardboard box.  We slid the box outside into a fenced in area made just for them where they had their first taste of pact frozen snow.

The puppies loved every minute of being outside.

Like chasing Mommy Silver and trying to grab a teat.

OR

Chasing Daddy until he rolled over.

even on the opposite side of the fence.

OR

Digging out the leftover birdseed frozen in the ground.

After about ten or fifteen minutes they started to get cold and it was time to go back in the box and head inside.

10 puppies in one TV box?
What kind of deal is this??
