Monday Memories-Chance and the boy

Chance's first six months home with us.  This is his story:

He stands at the corner of the fence, waiting, staring at the long road looking for what he has lost.  His eyes hoping to see the boy again.  He continues to wait.  He will never give up.  For it doesn't matter what happened to him, the neglect and abuse, all he cares about the boy.  No one can question his love for the boy.  His loyalty is fierce.  He waits every day.  The day ends with sad eyes.  He has come back home where he was born. He knows he is loved here, but he always looks back for the boy.  Lost and confused at the turn of events, he never gives up trying.  Where is the boy?  He wouldn't just leave him.

For months he continues his empty search.  He struggles to understand.  He finds comfort in new arms that understand his pain.  He slowly begins to accept, the boy is gone, fading into the distance like a sunset that will never rise again. Unlike the boy, Chance never stopped loving him.  He sometimes sits and listens to the secrets of the wind that carries his love to the boy.

Hi Y'all,
so sad, but my Human Momma who has had rescue dogs since she was a child, says it is so typical.
My over the rainbow Chessie big sis didn't bark for a long time and for the rest of the school year watched the kids get off the school bus everyday. She'd also gather all the toys the humans gave her and carry them from room to room as she followed the humans around the house.
We love unconditionally.

We saw a story on a blog last week about a dog whose owner died and the dog still waits everyday for him to come home. We don't remember how long it has been, but it has been a long time. We hope that with time another boy will come along to fill that longing for Chance.

Otherwise, what a deep story. I love Chance and his look... let me guess, he does that face everyday. He seems happy, but sad. There are so many mixed emotions.

Such a touching heartfelt post. At least Chance is back a place where he can be loved like he deserves to be.

What a sad story - hopefully Sam will never have to go through that, but we often wonder about Monty. He's had at least three homes, including the rescue, making us the fourth. It took him some time to even look at us like we mattered to him. We often wondered how he felt...

How sad. It's so sad when our previous owners don't want us anymore cuz we don't know why or what we did. It sounds like he is much better with you though. His home might not have been so nice.
