Blaze's beauty

Blaze showing off in her harness.

Somewhere in Blaze's blood is a natural born sled dog.  She may technically have 1/4 Lab in her, but her temperament and disposition is all Husky.  This goes along with the drive she has to pull.  I have been told that not all Huskies have this drive, but when they do it is all they live for.

When we first got her back, I put on a harness and tie a small log for her to drag, she didn't even notice.  Never once turned around to look at it, just wanted to go faster.  After that I tied her to my 3-wheel bike I use for pulling and she never thought twice about what she was doing.  She was the first dog I never had to teach "how" to pull, she just did it.  I still have to work with her on commands, turning, stopping (very important, lol) and just plain listening to me, but she's smart enough to catch on quick.

Watching her run while she pulls is like watching water flow.  I've never witnessed a dog pull with such fluid and graceful movements.  She moves effortlessly, agile and with strength.  Her body is sleek and smooth and rises and falls like that of a gentle wave.  She becomes very focused, almost a completely different dog, and you can feel the ghosts from the centuries of this old tradition riding along beside you.  It literally takes your breath away.

There is nothing more beautiful than watching a dog do what it was born to to.  There is nothing more amazing than finding and unlocking that gift and watch it come to blossom.  And there is nothing like watching Blaze pull a sled in the middle of snowstorm and the beauty of watching her be the Husky she is.

Thanks so much for your kind comments on my blog and for stopping by!

You are so right....watching a dog do what it truly has a HEART for is an amazing thing. We are border collie/aussie people and we have one agility dog, Minky. People think I have trained her extensively because of her abilities. I have worked with her a lot but I've only capitalized on what she instinctively knows to do. She HYPER focuses on a frisbee and can jump roof height. She herded cattle while we were wilderness camping before we could stop her and knew exactly how to get the herd joined together.

She backs up on command which amazes people more than anything else - I don't know why. It was just a necessary thing to teach her while controlling her focus. She is nearly two now. Three months ago we lost our Border/McNab after 12 years. She was our right arm. Terrible loss to a neurological disorder.

We decided to bring in an aussie/australian cattle dog mix pup about two months ago and she is proving to be a gentle genius. Yep, they enrich our lives in ways only those who truly love them can comprehend.

Nice to meet you. Sorry for the book! lol

What a wonderful post!

You know it's funny, our Labs have no Husky in them and they are still superb pullers. :)

What a beautiful thought. Good dog, Blaze! I'm trying to decide what my spaniel-dachshund Kelly was born to do. I think maybe nap ;)

Thanks so much for all of you stopping by.

Robynn thanks for sharing about your border collie/aussie. I think herding dogs are just simply amazing. Alex was way passed his years by the time we got him and his legs. Plus we had no cattle. lol

Life with Dogs, aren't all dogs good pullers?? :)

Peggy, What dog doesn't love a good nap!
